The Bird Preserve!

I made a long list of activity ideas that the hubby and I could do this summer so that when we were bored or couldn't think of anything to do, we could just look at the list and pick something.  First on the list was a visit to the Henderson Bird Preserve which is where we went today.  I think this is one of the best kept secrets in southern Nevada as most people don't even know about this place but it is literally an oasis in the desert, for us humans as well as migrating birds.  Best of all, this place is free!

The bird preserve includes a bunch of ponds, a lot of natural habitat, and as the name implies, birds.  I know basically nothing about birds but hubby and I had fun just walking the paths and checking out the birds and wildlife.  We saw lots of ducks, an assortment of other birds, some baby ducklings, and amusingly, we debated whether a momma duck was going to chase us away because she was standing in the path looking very formidable.  We figured she may have had ducklings close by so we inched past her and continued our walk.  Do ducks charge at people like geese do?  We had no idea but didn't want to take any chances!

  1. Your list is a great idea. I'm always thinking of places for us but hubs needs to get ideas out there too.

    1. LOL my hubby NEVER has any ideas...it's mostly "whatever you want to do" which is not helpful at all!

  2. Tommy and I would love this place. We have a bird book and cd of calls. The walking would not suit either of us with our mobility issues. We have a list of places to go, too.

    1. If you ever come to Las Vegas this is the perfect place to visit, nice wide paved paths and all sorts of birds!
