10 Things for the Last Week of the Year

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  Here are ten things for the last week of the year...

  1. We are back on track with our annual Christmas Eve party with the cousins (it had been canceled for the last couple of years due to the pandemic).  As usual, it was a hodgepodge of cultures and events all crammed into one event--notice the menorah sitting next to the pile of ham(!).  We had Asian food (nice sushi boats!), American food, vegan food, Christmas gift giving and a prayer then lighting of the menorah.  A great time was had by all!
  2. Christmas day was uneventful.  We didn't have any plans and didn't feel like going out so we stayed home and watched three football games!
  3. It was weirdly quiet in the stores the day after Christmas.  Usually the stores are packed with shoppers looking for deals after Christmas yet yesterday and today when we were at several stores, there were hardly any shoppers!
  4. I hope none of you were in Buffalo this past weekend--15 foot snowdrifts seem crazy (and cold!).  While I like the idea of a white Christmas, in reality, I hate being cold so I am more than happy to watch YouTube live and see the snow in various places from my house in 65 degree Las Vegas.
  5. Speaking of YouTube Live, I love all of the live webcams that I can watch to see everything from mountain villages to Niagara Falls to a sunny beach.
  6. And then there was the weird Amazon find of the week--silicone ears!?!
  7. My task this week, as always during the last week of the year, is a deep cleaning of my house, getting rid of stuff we don't need (a couple of trips to the Goodwill are in order for this week), cleaning out the pantry, organizing all of my computer files, etc.
  8. One of my goals for the coming year is to walk a "Centurion" which is a challenge my walking club hosts.  A Centurion is 100 10k walks during the year.  I've got my Centurion card to mark off, my walking shoes are ready to go, and I can't wait to start on the first day of the new year!
  9. I found a missing person.  Someone posted on a message board that they were searching for a long-lost relative so with the bit of information they had, I was able to connect them to the person they had been looking for for years (OSINT is my thing apparently).
  10. Finally, I was at Dollar Tree today and I can't believe that they are already featuring Valentine's Day stuff.  We haven't even finished up with Christmas yet!

  2. I could barely get into the door for all the New Year merchandise. Then, I was met by Valentine's Day stuff. Oh, my! I am quite sure Easter will be next week.

All the different foods are amazing in one place.

Deep cleaning? I am just trying to keep up with what I have gotten done, never mind doing the whole house.

    1. Yes I think they really rush the holidays in stores these days--Christmas items were popping up even before Halloween!

    1. I think a mandatory recovery period from Christmas should be in order before the early spring holiday stuff starts!

  5. We are over the border from Buffalo and it was something else. The webcam of the border itself was shocking. So much snow and wind. I'm with you on deep cleaning, trying to find the time/motivation/energy/commitment. But it's my task for this weekend!

    1. I hope the snow doesn't last too long in your area. There were videos of people opening their front doors in your area only to be met with a wall of snow which is shocking to those of us in the desert!
