It's been an age since I posted anything, mostly because it's been a kind of sucky month so far...
- Hubby and I were sick on our cruise, felt better by the time we got home, then caught some sort of respiratory virus lite edition which lasted about a week
- Some friends came to visit; both caught the flu and were sick for about two weeks
- People I work with: one was just convicted of killing his wife, one just got arrested for a long list of horrific crimes against children, and one young mother was just got a terminal illness diagnosis :( :( :(
- Our country is careening towards tyranny (I certainly didn't have invade Venezuela, Greenland, and Canada on my bingo card this year!)
- And prices are out of control (we took our friends out to dinner and the wife ordered a steak with a lobster tail as an add on. It was listed at market rate but since when is market rate $48 for a three ounce lobster tail??? Fortunately the entire bill was free with hubby's poker comps but $50 for parking at the casino (free for hubby), $400+ for a basic dinner for four people, $10 for a Starbucks drink, and minimum play on the blackjack table was $50...no wonder people are avoiding Vegas like the plague!
On a happy note...
- One friend was worried a biopsy she had done would be cancerous and it wasn't so that was good news
- Another friend gave me a bulb in a wax ball (above) which said not to water it, just leave it in a warm, non-sunny spot and two months later these pretty flowers bloomed
- Our weather has been amazing good all winter. If you are in the path of the winter storm set to hit the US this weekend, I hope you are warm and safe in your home!
Wow, I'd be looking for the flowers too if I had a month like yours. Going out to eat is now only to celebrate occasions and not just to be fed. It's just gotten to be so much. I took a friend for her birthday- just enchiladas for her and a burrito for me. She had a drink but I had water. Still over $50 with tax and tip. People just can't afford that multiple times a month if not for a special occasion that's planned for.

DeleteVenezuelans are thrilled, happy and were celebrating in the streets to be rid of the man who has made their lives hell for 27 years; they had no food, no medicine, no household goods... it's been interesting to follow their stories for the past 12 years I've been interested and following... they are incredibly thankful and have called out Americans for being idiots for protesting it. As for Greenland - it made NO SENSE TO ME until I started to dig deeper. Ahhh now I get it. Not only are Greenlanders NOT happy with Dutch rule, (they'd like to rule themselves) but it's a country that is a very weak link between the US and Russia... it would indeed be strategic for safety if the Dutch want to sell.

This also sets a precedent for other countries like China and Russia to just go an remove leaders of countries they don't like.For Greenland, the Dutch don;t want to sell and one NATO country (the US) attacking another NATO country would be catastrophic.

DeleteI've worked with some terrible people, but not as bad as your coworkers. Yikes! Mine were liars, thieves and manipulative narcissists, the exact same type of people running our country right now.
ReplyDeleteThe weird thing is that these guys were the nicest people--always willing to help out on projects, super friendly and welcoming when I first started working. Makes me wonder why my Spidey senses didn't tell me something was wrong but I guess, after the fact, many people probably though the same thing. And yes, everyone in charge of our country should be marched out in handcuffs!
