Some random observations...
- They now sell half loaves of bread (literally labeled half loaf) at the Dollar Tree. Of course they charge the same price as a whole loaf of bread for it :/
- A quick note if you use an OTA antenna on your TV, rescan every once in a while. We did this a few days ago and found that dozens of new channels have been added!
- I got a Starbucks gift card for Mother's Day so I swung by our local Starbucks to pick up a coffee Frapuccino and I couldn't believe that in the short time I waited for my drink, more than a half dozen Doordashers came in to pick up Starbucks orders. That seems like a crazy expensive way to get a coffee!
- Here is a subreddit on the proverbial cat distribution system.
- Also from reddit, a great list of frugal tips.
- Polymarket and similar sites prove that people will bet on literally anything!
- Finally, here are some uplifting memes...

Here are a few things that my husband and I do. For us, these are not only about being frugal, but also about our preferences changing. Just wanting life to be more simple, and thinking that some things are not necessary anymore.
ReplyDelete~ We never buy something just because it's on sale, unless we always buy that item anyway.
~ We started cutting each other's hair during the Covid-19 changes.
~ Frozen pizzas and lasagnas - If we are very tired from a busy day, I think it's better to heat the occasional frozen pizza or lasagna, instead of being tempted to eat at restaurants too often. Also, the service and food quality at most of the nearby pizza joints has declined. We would rather spend $10-$12 on a good frozen pizza.
~ Just my personal preference, but the only makeup I wear recently is tinted lip balm and sometimes a bit of neutral eyeshadow. It's low-maintenance and I feel more comfortable.
~ I am getting a few grey hairs now at age 38. I don't care about dying my hair, but again, this is just my preference.
~ I buy a lot of clothes at thrift stores. You have to be careful with this now because thrifting has become "trendy" in recent years, so some of the stores are charging absurd prices. There are still good stores with reasonable prices, though.
~ Hanging laundry up to air-dry, then maybe fluff in the dryer machine when it's mostly dry.
~ I shave my legs with bar soap or a small amount of shampoo.
~ Sometimes, instead of buying something that was made for a specific purpose, you can find a cheaper item that will work. A plain red gift bag instead of a bag with a Christmas design, etc.
Sorry for the long comment!
Those are great tips. Thank you!
DeleteThe half loaf is the same price as a whole loaf?? That is crazy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the uplifting memes. We could probably all use them right now.
I tend to gravitate to happy news these days, there is too much negativity...everywhere...these days!
DeleteI have seen half loaves of bread appear more and more in our local stores. Do you want to know what's even more crazier is seeing doordash drop off Starbucks orders at our grand daughter's middle school. There are more and more parents having doordash delivered to their children's school........
ReplyDeleteWow I didn't even know kids could get deliveries of anything at school. Times have certainly changed since I was a kid!
