Everything is Going Up Up Up!

Among the things that are going up...

...the price of gas.  We drove by this local gas station and I swear the price goes up on a daily basis!

...and the price of food.  The cousins are having a party this weekend so we cooked for their party and the price of food keeps going up as well. This is one of a dozen Filipino dishes we cooked for them.  Thankfully they gave us the cash to buy the food!

...when you can find it!  This was the pasta aisle at one of our local grocery stores. eeekkk

...even haircuts are going up now!  A couple days after I got my haircut I saw this new coupon which maybe some of you can use.

...On a happy note, here are some clever ways to reduce waste.  And some scams to watch out for.  Here are some funny pictures.  And this looks like a great scholarship opportunity!

  1. We haven't seen empty shelves in a while here, but I get the sense that the stores shift around inventory to reduce the perception of inventory gaps.

    1. I noticed that Costco does that. If they are missing stuff they just fill in the empty spaces with more of the stock they do have on hand. Someone said to look up at Costco to see how much stuff they really have in stock since they put all of their excess stock up above the stock on the floor so when the stock on top gets low it's a problem.

  2. Your gas is still cheaper there than Canada...and we notice as we have an RV we have to fill at times. It's sad either way...

    1. I can't even imagine filling up a 100+ gallon RV tank now--that could be a house payment in some places!

  3. I figured with grain shortages because of the war in Ukraine, that anything with flour in it would start disappearing and pasta would be the first thing. Looks like I was right. Good thing we don't eat a lot of it because it puts weight on us so easily and we are trying to keep it off. People will compensate with rice, so look for that to start disappearing also.

    1. I think we have 200 pounds of rice in our stockpile now because hubby can't go without it. The cost of flour seems really high now but I don't use it fast enough to stockpile more than 10-20 pounds of it. I try to stay away from eating much pasta for the same reason!

  4. I think I have about 10 lbs of brown rice. We eat rice but not often and little at each helping. Same with flour--rarely use it but I don't want to run out. I am buying extra oil because I hear that will be scarce. I don't have much pasta, but I would hate to want it and not have it. I feed hummingbirds, so sugar might be a biggie for me. I have started ordering cases of food from Amazon because I just cannot search for food! It is too tiring. What I order is always cheaper than in the store. Otherwise, I don't order it. I worry about children having enough to eat.
